INFO:
What do I do if my older child asks a question in front of my younger child? 🤔 What we DON’T want to do is this, 😳🤫😲 “SHHH we can’t talk about this in front of your little sister!” 🚫 This reaction sends a very clear message that this is a bad topic or this is something that is NOT okay to talk about. What we DO want to do is answer to the youngest person in the room or in the car. Then, circle back to the older child with more information later, “Earlier today you asked me a great question and because you’re 8 years old I want to give you a little bit more information.” ✨ We want to be a safe place for our kids to come to with their curious questions ✨ Has this ever happened in your family? Let’s chat 👇🏼 And remember (!) the goal is to be purposeful parents, NOT perfect ones. So if you do panic and shhhh them … just circle back and try again. Our goal is to normalize periods because (wait for it…) PERIODS ARE NORMAL. ✨ Stay calm and start simple. Your response or explanation can and should build over time. This might be your first conversation about periods, but it won’t be your last. So don’t feel the pressure to explain it all at once! ✨ What if we took advantage of these little moments instead of shushing and shaming (or even just avoiding) something that is very normal? What if our little girls AND little boys grew up knowing that “a period is the body’s way of cleaning out the uterus” or “periods happen about once a month” or “a tampon is what women (and older girls) use for their periods”? 🤫 What we don’t want is for periods to be a taboo or “off-limits” subject in our home. We don’t want our kids to be full of fear or shame or confusion or disgust. 🐝 At Birds & Bees we want to equip and empower parents to have age appropriate conversations with their child that build over time. These small conversations create a pattern of trust and healthy, open communication between parent and child. Drip by drip, little by little. ✨Birds & Bees is here to EQUIP and EMPOWER parents! ✨ Entire course is just over an hour … You can do this 👊🏼🐝🙌🏼 For parents of kids ages 1-10
